How to check your Claude Code usage and cost

Three ways to see your usage

1. The /usage command
Inside Claude Code, type /usage. On Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise you see your plan usage bars and a breakdown of what used them: skills, subagents, plugins and MCP servers, plus flags for costly habits like very long context. Press d or w to switch between the last day and the last week.
The dollar figure in the Session block is for API users. On a subscription, your usage is included, so that number is a reference, not a bill. The breakdown only counts usage on that computer.
2. ccusage (free, open source)
ccusage is a free, MIT-licensed tool that reads Claude Code's local log files and prices them at API rates. You need Node.js. In a terminal, run:
npx ccusage@latest
It shows a table of cost per day. Use npx ccusage@latest claude daily to see only Claude Code. It also has weekly, monthly and session reports, and a blocks report that follows Claude Code's 5-hour windows. ccusage is made by an independent developer, not Anthropic.
3. The Claude Console (API users)
If you use Claude Code with an API key, your real bill is on the Console usage page. Team and Enterprise admins also get a spend report with estimated spend per person and per model.

We estimate Pro covers about $125 a month at API rates, Max 5x about $625 and Max 20x about $2,500. For scale, the heavy user we measured spent $1,497 in a month at API rates on Max 20x ($200) and almost never hit a limit.
